Academic Work
I am a PhD Candidate in Children's Literature at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. My research sits at the intersection of cultural history, media studies and the history of science.
I have written for the Jacobin and discussed my research on the Anti-Dystopians podcast.
I am primarily a cultural historian. My doctoral dissertation “‘They’re Following Our Script’: 70 Years of Disney & Outer Space” is a history of the Walt Disney Company’s role promoting outer space to the American public, from Man in Space (1955) to Elio (2025). Through exploring the Disney Company’s projects and notable collaborations, whether Nazi rocket scientists or NASA, I show the company’s deep entanglements with the military-industrial complex and how Disney has shaped American science and space policy as well as public reception for almost a century. In addition to my doctoral work, I am working on a project about how figures in the far-right produce—not just censor—children’s literature to shape their social and political agendas.
The broader thematic interests of my work revolve around public history and education, especially how culture and media affect the construction of historical narratives and memory. I have a background in Ancient History and received my Masters by Research in Classics and Ancient History from the University of Exeter in 2021, and my BA in Ancient History from University of Exeter in 2018. My master's thesis Babylon in the Greek Imaginaire explored “ancient orientalism” and impressions of Babylon in Greek literature and novels.
In addition to my academic research, I write and develop public facing historical and educational material. I’ve written scripts for historical exhibits at English Heritage as well as promotional and outreach material for clients such as the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
I am a shodan [black belt] in aikido and a cricket enthusiast.
